Persons with disabilities may be placed under guardianship or guardian advocacy because someone believed they were incapable of safeguarding their own health and well-being. Some resist the imposition of guardianship and want to be in control of their own lives.
Developing Abilities and Restoring Rights: A Manual for Legal Professionals is a manual designed for attorneys, judges, examiners and guardians involved in the Florida guardianship process.
The objective of the series is to build abilities to exercise civil rights among people with disabilities, particularly those who are under guardianship and who may want some or all of their rights restored. Guardianship professionals using this Manual are encouraged to also read the accompanying Workbook (found here) and Guide (found here) to support persons with disabilities in developing their abilities, building independence, and seeking rights restoration.
